Man Booked For Illegally Possessing 20 Baby Crocodiles And An Albino Monkey
Mumbai: Ashfaque Wadia (36), a resident of Bhendi Bazar has been booked for illegal possession of 20 live baby crocodiles and 1 albino monkey. They were being transported from Bengaluru to Mumbai on a private bus.
They were bundled into 5 bags. Smuggled from Bangkok, they had been brought into India vis Chennai.
The bus was intercepted by officials of the directorate of revenue intelligence and the forest department when it reached Kalamboli in Navi Mumbai.
The crocodile is an endangered species. It is found only in Indonesia, East Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam.
According to sources, Wadia confessed that the animals were brought in from Bangkok and smuggled in India via Chennai. Wadid visited Chennai on July 25 and collected the consignment of the animals from his accomplices and reached Bengaluru from where he took the bus.
Uniforms say that they have further information about the syndicate Wadia is a part of and that they will look into it.
