Man Confines, Rapes Woman He Met On Matrimonial Portal In Pune

Mumbai: A case was filed on Monday after a man allegedly confined and raped a woman at an apartment in Pune. The woman and accused had met through a matrimonial portal, according to the complaint.

An FIR was lodged at Hinjewadi police station on Monday based on the complaint of the victim, who worked as an engineer in a private company in the city. After an initial conversation, the man told her that he wanted to marry her. The complaint states that in the third week of November, he invited her to a birthday party.

As the party ended late in the night, he took her to an apartment in the Marunji area, he said in the complaint. He confessed and raped her in the apartment, he alleged.

A police officer said the man could not be contacted or was later found in his apartment.

“He had given an address in Madhya Pradesh. When the woman went to the given address, it turned out to be fake. He then approached the police and an FIR was registered.”

A case has been registered against the accused under sections 376 (rape), 354B (assault or criminal force with intent to undress a woman) and 342 (wrongful confinement) of the IPC.
