Man Held For Assaulting A Constable In Colaba

Mumbai: A 23-year-old was arrested on Friday who, in an intoxicated condition, allegedly assaulted a policeman and tried to flee from a nakabandi in Colaba.

In the early hours of Friday, police had put up a nakabandi in Colaba. The police said on realizing he could land in trouble, the accused, who was on a bike, took a U-turn and started racing away. A constable followed him until the museum and stopped him.

Siddharth Singh, the accused, was arrested under IPC sections for assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from doing his duties. Police also booked him under the motor driving act. He was remanded in Judicial custody but was later granted bail.

“The accused was aggressive and unwilling to undergo a breath analyser test. He started abusing the constable. Meanwhile, another policeman arrived on the scene and tried to convince Singh to undergo the test,” said an official. Singh allegedly flew into a rage and slapped a constable and pushed him. The Colaba patrolling team arrived and detained the biker and brought him to the police station.

Singh’s blood report has indicated the presence of alcohol in his blood was 99.2 mg per 100 ml, much higher than permissible levels.
