Man Held For Posing As NHRC Official And Misusing National Emblem

Mumbai: Kolsewadi police in Kalyan have arrested one person for allegedly misusing the National Emblem on letterheads and visiting cards.

The accused Lalman Pandey was arrested on Tuesday while, the hunt is on for his associate Sale Gulkhan, who is absconding. Pandey posed himself as an official of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) by using the national emblem on his letterheads and visiting cards.

Anil Powar, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Kalyan region said, “According to the rules, the Emblem of India can only be used as per provisions of the State Emblem of India (Prohibition of Improper Use) Act-2005 and any unauthorised use is punishable under law.”

“We recently had received a written complaint against Pandey for using nation emblem and cheating people posing himself as an official of the National Human Right Commission. Acting on the complaint, our team conducted a raid at his office and arrested him”, Power said.

Pandey also posed as a member of the Central Government’s Hindi Advisory Board by using fake letterheads and visiting cards with the national emblem printed on them, the police said.
