Man Masturbates, Makes Lewd Gesture At Female Flyer On Pune-Nagpur Flight; Arrested
Mumbai: A man onboard a Pune-Nagpur flight allegedly masturbated and made a lewd gesture at a 40-year-old female flyer sitting next to him on Monday.
The man, identified as Feroze Shaikh, was arrested. Shaikh allegedly tried to sneak away after the flight landed, but was chased by the woman, after which CISF guards stopped him and handed him to the police.
According to a police official at Sonegaon police station, the complainant is a 40-year-old teacher who lives in Chandrapur and was traveling to Nagpur to attend her father’s funeral.
The woman’s screams reportedly alerted the crew and ground workers, who persuaded CISF troops to stop the suspect and turn him over to authorities.
According to the report, the woman acknowledged that she fell asleep shortly after takeoff and wasn’t aware of what was going on in the window seat next to her until she heard the announcement.
The complainant informed police that she originally disregarded her co-passenger because she thought he was just scratching himself. However, as he resumed the conduct and reportedly poked and pointed brazenly towards her, she felt concerned.
The woman stated that she wanted to call the cabin crew but that by the time the jet had landed, it was too late. Shaikh, a resident of Pune’s Kondhwa neighborhood and a professional engineer, is accused of rushing to the back exit as soon as the doors are unlocked and attempting to escape.
A Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) jawan who was on board intervened and restrained Shaikh before reporting the incident to police, according to the Sonegaon police station officer.
According to the TOI report, Shaikh was en route to an industrial water plant in Koradi, close to Nagpur, for work when the event happened.
Shaikh, who is engaged to be married next month, was subsequently booked under Indian Penal Code sections 354 (assaulting or using criminal force to any woman, intending to outrage her modesty), 354 (a) (sexual harassment) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and further probe was on, the police officer said. He was remanded in jail custody on Tuesday.
