Modi Knows Nothing About Economics, He Failed To Fulfill His Promises: Rahul Gandhi

Mumbai: Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi lambasted on PM Modi over the latest economic crisis in the country, Gandhi said Narendra Modi “knows nothing about the economy” and measures like GST, demonetization, etc have ruined the economy with poor at the receiving end.

Addressing a rally here, he said that the Congress-led UPA government had fueled growth and made India the fastest growing economy in the world and recalled the then US President Barack Obama as saying that America’s Competition was with India and with China.

The Congress leader said that the only way to revive development was to increase the purchasing power of the poor.

Gandhi said, “There is only one way and that is to give money to the poor. We have started MNREGA and Narendra Modi has said in the Lok Sabha that this is not a good plan. Modi knows nothing about economics.” Gandhi said.

“A group of eminent economists from the US met me and said that the reason for the growth in the economy during 2004–14 was MGNREGA and farm loan waiver by the UPA government.

Gandhi said, “When the money reached his pocket, he bought toothpaste, brushes, pants, shirts, vehicles. When demand grew, manufacturing increased and more people got jobs in factories.”

He said, “Now the condition of the economy is not hidden from anyone. Unemployment is the highest in 40 years. The youth have no employment. Small traders are medium businessmen who are the backbone of the economy, Gabbar Singh wasted due to tax and demonetization Have gone.”

Seeking voters ‘support, Gandhi said the BJP failed on its promise to waive off farmers’ loans in Haryana, while the Congress has waived farm loans in Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh.
