New Political And Social Beginning In Punjab: Mayawati Hails SAD-BSP Alliance For Punjab Assembly Polls 2022

Out of 117 seats, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) to contest on 20 seats, and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) to contest the remaining 97 seats

Mumbai: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati termed the alliance with Shiromani Akali Dal for the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections as a “new political and social beginning” and termed it a “historic step”.

However, every section of the society in Punjab is suffering from poverty, corruption and unemployment etc. under the rule of Congress rule, Dalits, farmers, youth and women are worse hit, said the BSP chief and stressed that it is very important to make this alliance a success.

She further appealed to the people of Punjab to give their full support to this historic alliance.

Meanwhile, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) patron Parkash Singh Badal dialled the former Uttar Pradesh CM to congratulate her on the SAD-BSP alliance.

“We will soon invite you to visit Punjab,” Badal told Mayawati.

SAD MP Naresh Gujral reportedly held talks with BSP’s All India General Secretary Satish Mishra on Friday. A senior SAD leader said they would announce the alliance on Saturday.

He said that this would mark the beginning of a new socio-political movement not only in Punjab but also in the country where minorities and marginalized sections would come together on one platform.

SAD spokesperson Daljit Singh Cheema said the party’s core committee was discussing the new alliance.

The Akali Dal and BSP are joining hands 27 years after the 1996 Lok Sabha elections when their alliance had bagged 11 out of 13 seats in Punjab. The Mayawati-led BSP had then won all three seats it had contested while the Akali Dal won eight out of 10 seats.
