No Voting Rights Should Be Given To Immigrants For 25 years: Sanjay Raut On CAB

Mumbai: As Union Home Minister Amit Shah introduced Citizenship (Amendment) bill here in Parliament, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut said that his party supports the bill but wants certain provisions to be added in it regarding the voting rights of citizens who would get citizenship through it.

Speaking with ANI News Agency here, Raut said, “The Citizenship Amendment Bill is needed because Sikhs, Hindus in neighbouring countries are troubled. But Amit Shah had said that all intruders would be driven out of the country. We want the number of expelled immigrants to increase in the last six months.”

“Some are also alleging that the BJP is launching the cab to create a vote-bank for itself. Even the BJP-ruled states of the Northeast are opposing it, so give them citizenship, but Do not give them voting rights for the next. 25 years, “Raut said.

The Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, which seeks to grant Indian citizenship to non-Muslim refugees from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan, is set to be introduced in the Lok Sabha by Union Home Minister Amit Shah today.

Through this bill, Indian citizenship will be conferred on members of Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi and Christian communities who have come to India from three countries till 31 December 2014, facing religious persecution.
