Not Selling Tickets To Migrants, Charging Only Standard Fare From States: Indian Railways

Mumbai: Indian Railways has said that it is charging only standard fare from state governments in Shramik trains, which is just 15 percent of the total cost incurred by the railways.

ANI quoted its sources saying, “Railways are charging only standard fare for this class from the state governments, which is just 15 percent of the total cost incurred by the railways. The railway is not selling any tickets to the migrants and is only boarding passengers based on lists provided by States.”

The railways are running Shramik special trains keeping berths empty in each coach to maintain social balance, sources said adding trains are returning empty from destination under lock and key. The Railways are also providing free food and bottled water to the migrants.”

The Ministry of Railways said in a statement that in continuation of the measures taken in view of COVID-19, it has been decided that the cancellation of all passenger train services on Indian Railways will be extended till 17 May.
