Over 50,000 People Register For Modi Address In US Next Month

Mumbai: It has been reported that around 50,000 people have registered for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address at the NRG Stadium in Houston, US next month.

The event is titled ‘Howdy, Modi!’ Organized by the Texas India Forum. The summit will highlight the contributions of Indian-Americans in enriching American life for the last seven decades with the theme of “Shared Dreams, Bright Future” and has also played an important role in strengthening relations between the two countries.

The registrations were garnered over a period of three weeks.

If half a million people would attend the event, it would be the largest live audience to be addressed by any Indian Prime Minister in North America.

“At an unprecedented gathering of Indian-Americans in the United States, over 50,000 attendees have registered for a sold-out” Howie, Modi “in the last three weeks, featuring Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, Stadium at NRG on Sunday, 22 September, “an official statement by an organizing committee said.

The senator from Texas John Cornyn, co-chairman of the Senate India Caucus, has welcomed the Prime Minister to Houston.

“On behalf of thousands of Indian-Americans in Texas, and as co-chairman of the Senate India Caucus, I welcome Prime Minister Modi to Houston,” Cornyn said. “India remains a major security and economic partner of the United States, and I look forward to seeing it strengthen ties with her visit to Texas.”

The event is significant as India is Houston’s fourth-largest trading partner after Brazil, China, and Mexico. Furthermore, from 2009 to 2018, trade between Houston and India was the US $ 4.8 billion annually and in 2018 was valued at the US $ 7.2 billion.

According to the American Community Survey 2017, there are more than 130,000 people of Indian origin in the Houston area.

Organizer Jugal Malani said the event would provide a unique perspective on the Indian-American experience.

“The cultural event will provide a unique outlook on the Indian-American experience, and promises to showcase the diversity of our community while being an engaging and entertaining performance,” said Jugal
