On Friday, Pakistan’s philanthropic organization Edhi Welfare Trust Friday offered to send 50 ambulances and support staff to India to help the country fight the deadly COVID-19 epidemic.
In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Trust chief Faisal Edhi said that the organization is closely following the COVID-19 situation in India.
“We are very sorry to hear about the exceptionally heavy impact that the pandemic has had on your country, where a tremendous number of people are suffering immensely,” he wrote in the letter.
India – hit by a second wave of coronavirus – is struggling to contain a massive spike in cases amid a massive shortage of oxygen supply. In view of the increase in the number of COVID-19 cases, hospitals in many states are suffering from a lack of medical oxygen and beds.
The country recorded a record one-day increase in 3,46,786 coronavirus cases on Saturday, taking the number of infections to 1,66,10,481. On Saturday, active cases crossed the 25-lakh mark, according to data from the Union Health Ministry.
