Param Bir Moves SC Seeking Probe Into Deshmukh’s ‘Corrupt Malpractices’

Mumbai: In a new twist to Anil Deshmukh’s ‘extortion’, former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh on Monday moved the Supreme Court and sought a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation into the allegations of extortion levelled by him against the Maharashtra Home Minister.

In the petition, Singh challenged his transfer to the Maharashtra Home Guard Department and sought protection from the Supreme Court against further coercive action from the state against him.

The former Mumbai Police Commissioner moved the Supreme Court in a day when he took over as Director General (DG) of the Maharashtra Home Guard Department.

Singh was removed as Mumbai Police Chief on 17 March and transferred to the Home Guard Department.

Singh was under pressure over the alleged “mishandling” of the bomb scare outside Mukesh Ambani’s Antilia residence here.

The Maharashtra government has given the charge of Mumbai Police Commissioner to senior IPS officer Hemant Nagrale, who was holding an additional charge of Maharashtra DGP.

Just a few days after he was removed as commissioner, Singh on Saturday showed a letter to Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, in which he alleged that state Home Minister Anil Deshmukh sent Mumbai’s Assistant Police Inspector Sachin Waze and cops to collect Rs 100 crore monthly, including Rs 50 to Rs 60 crore from bars and hotels in Mumbai.

Waze is currently in the custody of the National Investigation Agency (NIA), which is now investigating the Antilia bomb scare case and the linked Mansukh Hiran death case.
