Partial Relaxation On Lockdown Might Help Country’s Economy, Sharad Pawar To PM Modi

Mumbai: NCP chief Sharad Pawar on Wednesday urged the Center to consider partial relaxation of lockdown keeping in view the financial health of the country.

He said this during a meeting of leaders of various parties with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday.
During the meeting, Pawar suggested relaxing the ongoing lockdown in some areas of the country to ensure that there is no compromise on people’s health and lives.

“The fight against the COVID-19 pandemic will go on for a long time. This can have an impact on the world and the Indian economy. There is a need to take appropriate steps for this. In all, the Centre should mull steps to uplift the economy now on,” Pawar told PM Modi.

Stating that attention should be paid to increasing the revenue of the states, Pawar demanded the release of GST compensation to the respective state governments including Maharashtra.

He urged the Center to carefully eliminate the non-plan and asked the government to consider the delay in construction of the new ‘Sansad Bhavan’ (Parliament Building).

Noting that industries and farmers are badly affected by the coronovirus crisis, Pawar asked PM Modi to ensure relief for these sections.

He also said that governors should first consult with chief ministers and chief secretaries to ensure that the two power centres are not functioning simultaneously.
