Wearing Mask In Mumbai Made Compulsory By BMC, Defaulters To Be Arrested

Mumbai: Following the strict measures to fight coronovirus amidst increasing cases, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Wednesday made it mandatory to wear masks in Mumbai at all public places, be it hospitals, offices, markets or travelling in the vehicles.

These masks may be available with a chemist or homemade washable masks, which can be reused. Those who are seen to be breaking the order will be arrested.

Mumbai Municipal Commissioner Praveen Pardeshi announced in a letter, “I have come to the conclusion that the larger public interest making wearing of a mask by any person who moving in any public place is necessary.”

The letter further states, “Those found violating this rule shall be punishable under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and shall be strictly punished or arrested by police officers or officers appointed by the Assistant Commissioners.”

There has been a massive development following a state address by Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, who said that wearing masks had now become ‘absolutely necessary’

In particular, Mumbai has become a hotbed of coronavirus virus outbreaks with over 300 cases.

To prevent the spread of COVID 19 virus, Odisha on Tuesday also made it mandatory for the public to wear masks whenever they move out of their homes.
