PM Modi Lays Foundation Stone Of ₹451-Crore Lord Shiva-Themed Cricket Stadium In Varanasi

Mumbai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday laid the foundation stone of ₹451- crore Lord Shiva-themed international cricket stadium in Varanasi. The stadium will have Trishul-shaped floodlights and a damru-shaped media center.

The stadium, which would have a seating capacity of about 30,000 and be loaded with contemporary amenities, is expected to cost roughly INR 450 crore.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) will jointly organize the foundation stone laying ceremony, which is anticipated to be a major event. Star cricketers are anticipated to attend the occasion.

“At Ganjari, preparations have begun for the Prime Minister’s anticipated visit to lay the stadium’s cornerstone on September 23. Star cricketers are also set to attend the ceremony, in addition to BCCI office-bearers, according to Kaushal Raj Sharma, the Divisional Commissioner, who was quoted by the Times of India as stating.

The stadium was created by Larsen & Toubro (L&T), and the project’s finalized plans. The project will then be approved by the UPCA (Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association) and receive no-objection certificates from other departments, including groundwater and forestry.

The government has allocated INR 120 crore for land acquisition

After obtaining NOCs, work will start on leveling the purchased site and building the stadium’s perimeter wall. The government has set aside INR 120 crore for site purchase, with the remaining INR 330 crore going toward building the stadium.

The 30,000-seat international cricket stadium will be able to host international cricket matches once it is finished. The construction of roads and other amenities in the stadium’s vicinity will also start soon.

The stadium will further encourage young people in Uttar Pradesh to play cricket for India, following in the footsteps of players like Suresh Raina, Kuldeep Yadav, Piyush Chawla, Mohammad Kaif, and Praveen Kumar, who are from the state.
