PM Modi To Inaugurate Bogibeel Bridge Today

Mumbai :  Prime Minister Narendra Modi to inaugurate the longest joint road and rail bridge on the Brahmaputra river between the Bogibeel Bridge and the Dhemaji District of Dibrugarh district in the North Eastern Indian state of Assam.

This is the 4th longest bridge in India after Dhola Sadiya Bridge, Bandra-Worli Sea Link and Mahatma Gandhi Setu.

Located 17 km from Dibrugarh and Dhemaji, the Bogibeel bridge spreads the Brahmaputra river and connects Dibrugarh town in the south to the north of Dhemaji river.

This bridge is located just 20 km from the border of Assam-Arunachal Pradesh and thus it is expected to work as an alternative to Koliya Bhomora Setu Tezpur in connectivity to around five million people living in Upper Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.

The Bogibeel bridge will provide a connection between the Rangiya-Murakkoncelek section of the North East Frontier Railway on the north shore of Brahmaputra and the Lumding-Dibrugarh section, which is located in the south of the Brahmaputra. A new Dibrugarh railway station, which is expected to be the largest in this area, has been proposed and is to be connected to the Rangiya-Mukronsalek line through Chukkhova and Mornahat.

The design of Bogibeel bridge has 39 spans of 125 m and a superstructure of composite welded steel truss and reinforced concrete It is designed to carry a double line 1,676 mm (5 ft 6 in) broad gauge railway on the lower deck and a 3-lane road on the upper deck.
