PM Narendra Modi Announces COVID-19 Economic Response Task Force

Mumbai: In a recent development, PM Narendra Modi announced the formation of a COVID-19 Economic Response Task Force led by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to deal with the situation arising out of the novel coronavirus outbreak.

“Keeping in mind the economic challenges posed by the coronavirus epidemic, the government has decided to set up the COVID-19 Economic Response Task Force under the leadership of the Finance Minister. This task force will also ensure that all steps are taken to reduce the economic difficulties and execute them effectively,” Modi said in his address to the nation.

He said that the task force will remain in regular touch with all stakeholders, take their feedback and make decisions accordingly.

Modi also said that people should not panic buying essential commodities.

“I appeal to everyone not to go into panic shopping to store essential items. Steps are being taken to ensure that there is no shortage of essential items.”

The Prime Minister requested the citizens to refrain from visiting hospitals for regular check-ups. “If you have an appointment for any non-essential surgery, please postpone for a month. We should take care that hospitals should not be under pressure,” he said.

The Prime Minister said, “Postpone elective surgery in a month, avoid regular checkups to ease the pressure on health services.”

Modi appealed to citizens to follow ‘Janta curfew’ on March 22 in the view of the coronavirus outbreak.

Modi also said that no definite solution has been found and no vaccine has been developed yet to deal with coronavirus.

The total number of positive cases of COVID-19 in India stands at 167, including 25 foreigners. Four deaths (one each) have been reported in Delhi, Karnataka, Punjab and Maharashtra,” the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said in a statement.
