PMC Customers Protests Outside Reserve Bank Of India Headquarters

Mumbai: Scamsters Punjab and Maharashtra Co-operative Bank depositors staged a protest outside the Reserve Bank headquarters on Saturday and demanded to return their funds trapped in the accounts under sanctions.

A police officer said around 100 depositors, including women, raised slogans and shouted slogans against PLC Bank and RBI.

He said the presence of police personnel ensured that no untoward incident took place and no one was taken into custody.

After the alleged Rs 4,355 crore scam surfaced in PMC Bank, RBI initially withdrew Rs 1,000 in view of the liquidity crisis, and later raised it to Rs 40,000.

Depositors are protesting for their accounts to be returned to bank accounts.

The crisis at the bank is being credited to loans given to realty player HDIL, which were allegedly hidden by regulators’ investigations, turning over non-performing assets.

Five people including HDIL promoters have been arrested in the case.
