Punjab Govt To Waive Loans Worth Rs 1,186 Cr Of 1.13 Lakh Farmers, Rs 526 Cr For Landless Farmers

Mumbai: In a recent development, the Punjab government on Monday announced a loan waiver of Rs 1,186 crore to 1.13 lakh farmers and Rs 526 crore to landless farmers in the form of Punjab Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal.

Badal presented the state budget in the state assembly on Monday with an outlay of Rs 1,68,015 crore for the financial year 2021-22. SAD and AAP protested against farm laws and rising prices outside the Punjab Legislative Assembly.

He also proposed to increase the monthly pension for freedom fighters from Rs 7,500 to Rs 9,400 from 1 April. Badal also announced an increase in old-age pension from Rs 750 per month to Rs 1,500 per month.

An increase in the amount of Rs 21,000 to Rs 51,000 was also announced under the Shagun scheme. This is the last budget of the government headed by Amarinder Singh. Assembly elections are due early next year.

The budget session of the state assembly began on 1 March with the address of Governor VP Singh Badnore. The session is scheduled to continue until March 10.
