Amarinder Singh lost the election to Ajit Pal Singh Kohli of AAP, who secured 47,704 votes as against Capt’s 28,007.

The loss comes in the backdrop of the former chief minister breaking away from the Congress and forming his own party, the Punjab Lok Congress Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party alliance, which could barely scrape away a few seats in the state.

Amarinder had on Monday met Union Home Minister Amit Shah ahead of the results of the assembly elections in five states and said that his Punjab Lok Congress and BJP have performed well in the assembly polls.

The Captain formed his own party by breaking ties with the Congress and removing him from the post of Chief Minister of Punjab and was replaced by Charanjit Singh Channi.
