Mumbai: Queen Elizabeth II, Britain’s longest-serving monarch, has passed away aged 96.

On Thursday, Buckingham Palace had released a statement saying she was under medical supervision as her doctors were concerned for her health.

“The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow,” the Royal Family said in a statement.

The Queen was born on 21 April 1926 at 17 Bruton Street in Mayfair, London. She was the first child of The Duke and Duchess of York – who would later become King George VI – and Queen Elizabeth.

Buckingham Palace previously reported that doctors were concerned about Elizabeth II’s health, and recommended that she remain under medical supervision.

According to reports, the British government plans to codename Operation London Bridge in the event of his death.
