Mumbai: It seems Rahul Gandhi is fully committed to his decision to resign as Congress president.

Rahul said, he did this to ensure accountability for the defeat of the party’s Lok Sabha election and there was no question of returning to it.

This comes during the meeting with leaders from Haryana state coordination committee who urged him to continue to lead the party and take back his resignation.

He said, “I have resigned after taking full responsibility and ensuring accountability for the defeat of the party in the Lok Sabha elections. I can not ask others to resign, it is up to them to take responsibility or not.”

When asked about the party’s strategy for the forthcoming assembly elections, Gandhi explicitly asked the leaders to discuss it among themselves, leaving the state unit in the lurch.

Later the leaders said that they talk to Gandhi separately and expect the party to take a decision on the leadership of the state soon. In Haryana, there are elections to be held later this year.

Notably, Congress did not win a single Lok Sabha seat out of 10 in Haryana.

Meanwhile, Rahul said that he had said that it’s up to the party’s highest decision-making Congress Working Committee, which will decide on the selection of the new president.

When some MPs told him that the leader would resign, Gandhi said, “If anybody wants to leave the party, they are free to do, today instead of tomorrow. I am here and will be at the party and for the Congress, I will work.”

“I have become a Congress fanatic and (will) continue to fight the RSS. If others want to be with him (Rahul), they are welcome,” he told the MPs on Wednesday.

The meeting was attended by top Congress leaders like Congress general secretary in-charge Ghulam Nabi Azad, former Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, CLP leader Kiran Choudhry, party MLA and chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala and Kuldeep Bishnoi.

Earlier, In the presence UPA chairperson and his mother Sonia Gandhi, on Wednesday, Rahul told the members of his party that he was no longer the Congress President because he resigned.

Reports suggest that the youth leaders may go on an indefinite strike till Rahul resumes work as the legitimate Congress president.
