Rohit Sharma Fined ₹24 Lakh, Highest Penalty For Slow Over-Rate In IPL 2022 So Far

Mumbai: MI captain Rohit Sharma has been fined ₹24 lakh after his team maintained a slow over-rate against PBKS. It’s the highest fine for a slow over-rate offence in IPL 2022 so far.

“Mumbai Indians have been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate during their Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 match against Punjab Kings at the MCA Stadium in Pune on April 13,” IPL said in a release. Also Read: At One Point, We Were Cruising, I Thought PBKS’ 198 Was Chaseable: Rohit Sharma

“This was the team’s second offence of the season related to a minimum over-rate offences under the IPL’s code of conduct. Mumbai Indian captain Rohit Sharma was fined Rs 24 lakh and the rest of the members in the playing eleven were fined ₹6 lakhs or 25 per cent of their match fee, whichever is lower,” it further added.

In a crucial match at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Punjab Kings, batting first, posted a strong score of 198 for 5 wickets. Captain Mayank Agarwal scored 52 runs in 32 balls, while Shikhar Dhawan scored 70 runs.

South Africa’s 18-year-old Dewald Brevis made a blistering 25-ball 49 but Mumbai lost wickets at crucial moments and was reduced to 12 runs after being restricted to 186-9.

The five-time champions MI are still searching for their first win in this year’s Indian Premier League and are currently languishing at the bottom of the IPL points table.
