Russia And India Have Very Similar Opinions On International Agendas Which Greatly Affects Our Relationship: PM Narendra Modi

Mumbai: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his speech in 20th India-Russia summit said that Russia and India have a similar standing on many international agendas and if there are any differences then the differences are quite small. He during his 2-day visit said that the trip could give a new direction, new energy and new speed between the relations between both the countries.

By arriving in Vladivostok Narendra Modi became the first Indian prime minister to visit the Far East region of Russia. He is set to hold a bilateral meeting with President Vladimir Putin to participate in the Eastern Economic Forum and meet other world leaders.

Modi said, “Over the past 20 years, relations between India and Russia have made great progress. But the greatest achievement is trust, which in itself is of very great importance.”

He recalled his first meeting with Putin in 2001,  he said that even though he came as a Gujarat CM in the delegation of the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the Russian President Putin never made him feel less significant.

Modi said, “Then (in 2011) I arrived in Moscow with the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. I was the chief minister of Gujarat and this was our first meeting. But Putin did not at all make it clear that I am less significant, that I am from a small state or that I am a new person. He treated me as friendly as his own. As a result, the doors of friendship were open.”

“We talked openly, like our own people. It is very interesting to talk to him, and I openly admit that conversations with him are very informative,” he added.

Modi further went on to say that Putin is a very open person and that he could speak to him directly without any hesitation. He said, “Putin is a very open person. He speaks directly and expects him to speak directly and clearly. Therefore, we communicate without any “but” and “if”. We clearly understand that President Putin thinks so. Therefore, it is very easy for me to express my opinion to him.”
