Second Case In Four Days: Dog Stuffed In Sack And Drowned.

Mumbai: As you read this, another innocent animal is being abused, neglected or forced to fight. The first step to creating positive change for these animals is recognizing the cruelty that threatens them.

A security guard in a building in Naigaon allegedly put a stray dog in a jute bag, tied it and threw it in the drain on July 28, where he drowned. He allegedly did this on being instructed by society members and some shopkeepers. An animal lover who heard about this incident fished out the body on July 29. This incident came to light after the animal lover shared a video to animal welfare officer Mitesh Jain.

He immediately contacted the concerned person and personally visited the spot and recorded the statement of the watchman where he confessed to doing the crime. The watchman told Jain that he along with one Mithun Patel caught the dog and on the directions of Joshi, Patel, one Anand (the second name not known), and one Bharat Potteket threw the dog into the drain located behind the building. “A shopkeeper gave him R20 for the job.”

“This act by the watchman is totally inhuman and horrifying. I went to Naigaon police station and registered a complaint in the hope that such incidents do not occur again,” Jain added “Initially, the police refused to register my complaint. I then contacted Superintendent of Police Gaurav Singh, who took the matter seriously and instructed senior officer Rajendra Kamble of Naigaon police station to register the case,” Jain said.

A police officer from the Naigaon police station said no arrest has been made yet and that they would be investigating the case.

This is the second case to be registered in four days. A stray dog was brutally thrashed for taking shelter in Worli building.
