Shaktikanta Das Reappointed As RBI Governor For Three Years

Mumbai: The government on Friday extended Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das’ tenure by three more years. The reappointment is effective for three years beyond December 10, 2021, or until further orders, whichever is earlier, an official statement said.

According to an official statement, “The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the reappointment of Shaktikanta Das as RBI Governor for a period of three years with effect from December 10, 2021, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.”

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved this decision late on Thursday night.

Das was earlier the Economic Affairs Secretary under the Finance Ministry and was appointed to the RBI on December 11, 2018, for a period of three years. He held important positions in finance, taxation, industry and infrastructure during his career. He had also served as the alternate governor of India at the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank (ADB), and the New Development Bank (NDB) and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).

During his association with the Finance Ministry previously, Das was directly associated with the preparation of as many as eight Union Budgets. He is a post-graduate of St Stephens College, Delhi University.
