Shami Creates History, Becomes Fastest Indian Bowler To Reach 150 Wickets In ODI Cricket

Mumbai: Fast bowler Mohammad Shami on Tuesday created history by becoming the fastest Indian bowler to reach 150 ODI wickets. With his three wickets in the first ODI against England, Shami took his tally of wickets in ODI cricket to 151 in 80 matches.

After Indian skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bowl, Shami put the world champions in huge trouble by dismissing Ben Stokes with a sensational delivery in the third over of the game. Also Read: Bumrah Becomes World Number One ODI Bowler After Career-Best Performance

Later, Shami also dismissed England captain Jos Buttler, who was his team’s top scorer with 30 off 32 balls. Shami took three wickets for just 31 runs in seven overs.

Shami completed 150 wickets in ODI cricket on the basis of his memorable spell. He has become the fastest Indian to achieve this feat, breaking the long-standing record of Ajit Agarkar. Zaheer Khan is the third fastest Indian to reach this milestone.

Mohammed Shami – 80 games

Ajit Agarkar – 97 games

Zaheer Khan – 103 games.

Shami is also the joint third-fastest player to reach the milestone in world cricket. He and Afghanistan’s star leg-spinner Rashid Khan both played 80 matches to achieve the feat. Only Australian pacer Mitchell Starc and legendary Pakistan spinner Saqlain Mushtaq took fewer games than the senior Indian pacer to reach 150 ODI wickets.

England was dismissed for a total of just 110 which is their lowest ever against India. With figures of 6/19, Jasprit Bumrah registered the third-best bowling figures by an Indian in ODI cricket history.
