Shubman Gill Hospitalised In Chennai Due To Dengue

Mumbai: Team India batter Shubman Gill has been hospitalised in Chennai due to dengue. As per Cricbuzz, Gill was admitted to Kauvery Hospital on Monday. BCCI doctor Rizwan Khan is also attending to Gill.

The opener did not travel to Delhi with the team as he has been asked to avoid flying when the platelet count is down, Cricbuzz stated. As per reports, Gill’s platelet count has been low for some time now, and this is why, he has been advised to avoid boarding a flight.

“Team India batter Shubman Gill will not be travelling with the team to Delhi on 9th October 2023. The opening batter who missed the team’s first fixture in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 against Australia in Chennai is set to miss the team’s next fixture against Afghanistan in Delhi on the 11th of October. He will stay back in Chennai and will be under the supervision of the medical team,” read BCCI’s statement.

Before his health forced him to miss two games, the talented India opener seemed a lock for inclusion in India’s XI for World Cup matches in 2023 after a phenomenal run in the ODI format. In Gill’s place, Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma faced Australia at the top of the order. While attempting to reach a modest 200-run goal in India’s maiden World Cup game, both openers utterly failed.

Virat Kohli and KL Rahul’s tenacious innings helped steady the ship after India first faltered at 2/3 but went on to win by six wickets. India will try to maintain its winning streak in the ODI World Cup 2023 when they face Afghanistan in its second match on September 11 in Delhi.
