Sidhu Is Honest, Congress Trying To Suppress His Voice: Arvind Kejriwal

Mumbai: Delhi CM and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday praised Navjot Singh Sidhu for his honesty and said Congress is trying to suppress its state party chief’s voice.

Yesterday, Chief Minister Channi had claimed that his government had ended the sand mafia and reduced the price of sand. Immediately Mr Sidhu said that this information is wrong. He said that the sand mafia is still active. I salute his courage,” Kejriwal said at a press conference in Punjab on Tuesday. Also Read: 25 Cong MLAs In Touch With AAP But We Don’t Want Their Garbage: Kejriwal In Punjab

The AAP chief said that Sidhu himself has said that Mr Channi is lying. “He (Sidhu) is raising people-centric issues but the entire Congress party is trying to suppress his voice. Earlier there was Captain (Amarinder Singh), now Channi,” he said.

He then took a jibe at the Punjab Chief Minister, saying that he had not fulfilled his promises – like providing free electricity to the people of the state, setting up mohalla clinics etc.

Assembly elections are to be held in Punjab next year and before the elections, there is a lot of political churning going on in the state, especially in the ruling Congress. Amarinder Singh resigned as the Chief Minister of Punjab after a long and bitter feud with Navjot Sidhu.

While Sidhu accused Amarinder Singh of being a BJP loyalist, the latter called him a “dangerous man”, claiming that Sidhu has close ties with Pakistan.

Amarinder Singh was replaced by Charanjit Singh Channi, who had promised to end infighting within the Congress, but Sidhu hit out at his government over some appointments. He had also resigned from the post of Punjab Congress chief, due to which the high command intervened after which the appointments were cancelled.

Sidhu had quit the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2016. He was then a Rajya Sabha MP. He later joined the Congress and won elections in 2017 from Amritsar East.
