States Can Allow Service Providers To Operate Without Violating Lockdown Norms: MHA official

Mumbai: The Ministry of Home Affairs, which has issued revised consolidated guidelines for lockdown phase 2, has given an option to states to allow various service providers to operate without violating the central government guidelines for lockdown.

States can issue detailed orders to allow telecom service providers to run stores, mobile companies to run workshops, retail stores, recharge shops, etc.

According to a senior home ministry official, “It is up to the state governments to issue detailed orders.”

The MHA has already stated in its guidelines that public utilities “operating utilities that provide telecommunications and Internet services” will remain functional from April 20 in non-regulated areas.

A state chief secretary told ANI that states have the right to issue orders to make publicity easier but keeping in mind the guidelines of the MHA.

“They can impose conditions by issuing orders for allowing services in a particular area,” the official said.
