T20 WC: Interesting To See What Happens In NZ-Afghanistan Match, Says Kohli

Mumbai: Indian skipper Virat Kohli said the team is “trying” to replicate the once-dominant performance in the ongoing T20 World Cup.

Mohammed Shami and Ravindra Jadeja bowled before firing from KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma as India beat Scotland by eight wickets in a Group 2 match of the Super 12 stage at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Friday.

Kohli said, “A Dabangg performance, something that we were trying to do again. Now it will be interesting to see what happens on November 7 (November). Don’t want to say a lot about today’s performance, we know what we can do,” said Kohli after the win.

“It also tells you how important the toss can be at this location. We wanted to get them under 110-120 max, that was the mindset we went with. The bowlers were excellent, and then KL and Rohit did do really well,” he added.

India needed to chase down 86 runs in 7.1 overs to improve their net-run rate from Afghanistan, but the Kohli-led side did the needful in 6.3 overs.

“We talked about the 8-10 overs bracket before the start, didn’t really want to go too hard because if you lose wickets, that could cost an extra 20 balls. We thought if they were natural If you play properly, the run will come quickly,” Kohli said.

Chasing 86, India were on fire as the openers registered the fastest half-century of the current tournament. The Indian captain told that the players were playing very intensely in the practice matches.

Kohli said, ‘If you look at our practice matches, we are actually batting like this. There were some loopholes where we could not get two successful good overs.

“Teams bowled well too and created pressure on us. But we were just two overs of good batting. Jadeja bowled really well, also Shami was quite good. My family is here – that is enough (birthday) celebration for me,” he signed off.

With this win, India moved to the third spot with four points in Group 2.
