The Five Most Expensive Overseas  Buys At The IPL 2024 Auction

Mumbai: Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins topped the list of most expensive overseas players picked up at the IPL 2024 auction, becoming the first two cricketers in auction history to breach the INR 20 crore barrier.

IPL 2024 auction: Most expensive overseas players

Mitchell Starc: INR 24.75 crore (Kolkata Knight Riders)

The left-arm seamer will lead the KKR attack, joining the side after going for a whopping INR 24.75 crore. He is the most expensive player in the history of the IPL auction, with KKR and Gujarat Titans engaged in a heated bidding war. Starc last played a T20I for Australia in the 2022 T20 World Cup and has 73 wickets in 58 T20Is.

Pat Cummins: INR 20.5 crore (Sunrisers Hyderabad)

Pat Cummins became the second-most expensive player in IPL history, and the first cricketer to be purchased for more than INR 20 crore. Australia won the World Test Championship and the 50-over World Cup under his leadership, making him a solid captaincy candidate in a team that has frequently struggled for leadership in the past. However, his IPL statistics do not justify the high price tag: Cummins has 45 wickets in 42 games, conceding over 8.5 runs per over. Cummins gave up 8.83 and 10.69 runs in his last two seasons with KKR, respectively. His big hitting, on the other hand, is a plus.

Daryl Mitchell: INR 14 crore (Chennai Super Kings)

Mitchell hit two hundreds against India in the 2023 World Cup and has recently been a steady performer for New Zealand across all formats. Mitchell is an outstanding spinner who could thrive on the sluggish wickets that are typical at Chepauk in Chennai. He has 1,062 T20I runs with a strike rate of 137.22 and eight wickets in ten innings.

Alzarri Joseph: INR 11.50 crore (Royal Challengers Bangalore)

Given RCB’s ongoing bowling problems, adding a fast bowler to supplement Mohammed Siraj was a must. As a result, it came as no surprise when they went all out to obtain the West Indies’ services as soon as possible. With 16 wickets at an average of 21.06 in nine T20Is this year, Joseph’s performance indicates his effect. However, his economy rate is 10.36, which is an important factor to consider.

Rovman Powell: INR 7.4 crore (Rajasthan Royals)

West Indies’ Powell was the first player to go under the hammer in the 2024 IPL auction, with KKR, seemingly looking for a replacement for Andre Russell, pushing the price up. He was eventually purchased by Rajasthan Royals. Powell is a big hitter, with a strike rate of 143.26 in T20I and can also be a handy bowler.
