There Were A Lot Of Crucial Moments vs MI And We Nailed Them: Mayank Agarwal

Mumbai: PBKS captain Mayank Agarwal has said there were a lot of crucial moments during their game against MI and they nailed them to win the match by 12 runs.

The fifties from Mayank Agarwal and Shikhar Dhawan were backed by a daring bowling performance as Punjab Kings beat Mumbai Indians by 12 runs in their IPL 2022 match at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium here on Wednesday.

“It was a good night, very happy to contribute to the team’s win. The important thing for us was two points. We can’t say there were runs on the board, there were a lot of ups and downs in this game. There were a lot of crucial moments and more often than not, we were nailing and winning those moments. When the game was 50-50, we won those moments and it came towards us. It wasn’t batting alone, it was periods in the game,” said Mayank in a post-match presentation.

“That’s the cricket we want to play, we want to play aggressive, tough cricket. Along with that, we have to show a good mindset. We were a lot smarter too. In the last match against Gujarat, we gave Rashid wickets When it wasn’t needed. This time we were a lot more aware, we were a lot more careful and made sure we didn’t try to give wickets to their main bowlers.

“That’s the cricket we want to play, we want to play aggressive, tough cricket. Along with that, we have to show a good mindset. We were too smart too. In the last match against Gujarat, we gave Rashid wickets when it was not needed. This time we were a lot more aware, we were a lot more careful and made sure that we don’t try and give wickets to their main bowlers,” he added.

Rahul Chahar was dismissed by Dewald Brevis as he scored 29 runs in his over. But the spinner made a great comeback and conceded only 15 runs in his next three overs.

“We’ve talked about this in the team – ‘If it’s your day, you have to take the team forward.’ It might be hard to give credit to Brevis for the way he faced Rahul. Rahul’s comeback after that is over too. He bowled the other three overs which were tight. When Tilak and Brevis were going, we had to change our strategy, get in the main bowlers and try and get a wicket. Luckily it happened through run-outs and also our main bowlers taking wickets,” said Mayank.

Mayank Agarwal made 52, while Shikhar Dhawan scored 70 as the opening pair put on a 97 for the first wicket to help PBKS reach a defendable target of 198/5.

For Mumbai, Basil Thampi took two wickets while the team’s star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah took one wicket. This is the fifth consecutive defeat for Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League 2022 while it is their third win of the season for Punjab.
