Tirath Singh Rawat Sworn-In As Uttarakhand Chief Minister

Mumbai: BJP leader Tirath Singh Rawat was sworn-in as the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand on Wednesday. This comes a day after Trivendra Singh Rawat stepped down from the post.

He replaces Trivendra Singh Rawat, who stepped down on Tuesday. Earlier in the day, Tirath Singh met Governor Baby Rani Maurya and claimed to form the government in the state.

PM Narendra Modi congratulated the new CM, saying, “He brings with him vast administrative and organisational experience. I’m confident under his leadership the state will continue to scale new heights of progress.”

The 56-year-old was elected as leader of the BJP legislature, party paving the way for him to take over as the state chief minister.

He was elected as the Uttarakhand General Secretary of the BJP in 2007 and later in 2013 as the head of the state unit of the party.

He was the BJP chief in Uttarakhand from 2013 to 2015. In 2019, Tirath Singh became an MP from the Garhwal Lok Sabha seat.

According to sources, Uttarakhand BJP General Secretary Dushyant Kumar Gautam and former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Dr Trivendra Singh’s resignation came after Raman Singh submitted a report to the central leadership of the BJP.

The BJP won 57 seats in the 70-member Uttarakhand assembly elections in 2017. The Congress, on the other hand, managed to win just 11 seats.
