To Get Rid Of Kohli As A Captain At The Moment Would Be An Absolute Crime: Swann

Kohli is not only India's most capped Test captain (61), but also the most successful with 33 wins, and under his leadership, the Indian team has finished as the No.1-ranked Test team for five consecutive years

Mumbai: Former England off-spinner Graeme Swann has said that India should not get rid of Virat Kohli as captain at the moment as it would be an absolute crime against cricket.

Swann called Kohli a good captain and added, “India shouldn’t look elsewhere.

Kohli is not only India’s most capped Test captain (61), but also the most successful with 33 wins, and under his leadership, the Indian team has finished as the No.1-ranked Test team for five consecutive years.

Swann’s statement comes after India lost the final of the World Test Championship to New Zealand.

“To get rid of Virat Kohli at the moment, when you have such a good captain, would be an absolute crime against cricket. I don’t think they should look anywhere else. India lost that game because they were underprepared and under-cooked going into that Test match.”

Looking at India’s performance in the WTC final, Swann felt that India was in trouble due to a lack of match practice. Before the introduction of the WTC Finals, the IPL was the last form of professional cricket played by Indian cricketers, and even though they warmed up with an intra-squad simulation game, it was never enough.

“India just had net practice in Southampton. Nothing beats preparing for a Test match like actual Test match play. So New Zealand had everything in their favour when it came to who was going to win that game. That showed during the five days as India looked slightly rusty especially some of the batsmen,” added Swann.
