Tomorrow If Push Comes To Shove, Pull Out Of The IPL: Shastri On Kohli’s Poor Form

Mumbai: Former India captain Virat Kohli has been struggling to score some decent runs with his bat in recent times and experts, as well as fans, have expressed their concern over it. Also Read: It’s A Game Of Confidence, We’ll Continue To Back Him: Du Plessis On Kohli’s Form

The latest open on the issue is former India head coach Ravi Shastri who has worked with Kohli for a long time. Shastri has suggested a break for Kohli, as he has played back-to-back in all formats and also captained.

The former head coach believes that breaks would be an ideal solution for this batsman so that he can perform better in the days to come. Also Read: We Had Trust And Real Belief In Him: Samson On Riyan’s 56*(31) vs RCB

“I think the break is ideal for him as he has played non-stop cricket and captained the team in all formats. It would be wise for him to take a break. You know, sometimes you have to strike a balance. This year he is already in the tournament (IPL 2022), tomorrow if push comes and you want to prolong your international career and leave your mark there for 6-7 years, pull out of the IPL, for all you care,” said Shastri while speaking on Jatin Sapru’s YT channel. Also Read: RR Have Shown Faith In Me, I’m Paying Them Back: Riyan Parag

Shastri further said that he would give this special advice not only to Kohli but to any other batsman who is struggling like this. It would be better for the star to take a break now rather than take a break during India’s game.

The commentator also believes that Kohli may ask the franchise to pay him half of the IPL season as some tough calls are too important to take.

“If that is the case, then you have played for 14-15 years. I will tell this not only to Virat but to any other player. If you want to play and do well for India, you have to draw the line where you want to take that break and the ideal break would be off-season when India is not playing and the only time India does not play is the IPL. Sometimes, you need to do that or tell the franchise I’ll only play the half. Pay me half, as simple as that. Those tough calls need to come if you want to reach the zenith of your profession as an international player,” Shastri added.

It is important to note that Kohli has had the worst season since the inception of the IPL 2022, where he has scored 128 runs in nine matches at an average of just 16.
