Twitter India MD Manish Booked After Map Shows J&K, Ladakh Outside India On Website

Mumbai: Twitter India Managing Director (MD) Manish Maheshwari has been booked under several sections of IPC after a map on Twitter’s website showed Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh detached from India.

Managing Director Manish Maheshwari has been booked under section 505(2) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and section 74 of the IT (Amendment) Act 2008 for showing a false map of India on his website. A Bajrang Dal leader had lodged a complaint in Bulandshahr.

On Monday (June 28), Twitter got rid of the controversial map showing Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh as two separate countries. Late on Monday (June 28), the global map that previously appeared under the heading ‘Tweep Life’ under the ‘Careers’ section of the Twitter website was completely removed from the webpage. The glaring distortion had triggered a massive backlash from netizens who are demanding strict action against the microblogging platform.

The uproar comes amid a bitter standoff between the Indian government and Twitter over compliance with the new IT rules. After the distorted map came under public scrutiny and heavy censoring started from netizens, demands were raised for strict action against the microblogging platform. This is not the first time that Twitter has misrepresented the map of India. Earlier it had shown Leh as part of China.
