Mumbai: On July 19, the social service branch of the city police, along with NGO International Justice Mission, raided a flat in Malad. An 18-year-old girl was rescued and two female pimps were arrested. The girl initially told the police that she was a domestic help, but a probe revealed that she is a collegian who hails from a good background and lives with her parents.
Six months ago, the girl was introduced to the pimps by two men. The girl attended college in the morning and was sent to work the other half of the day. “She was exploited since she was a minor and a case under Pocso has been registered,” said an officer.
After rescuing the teenage girl, the police are looking at the possibility of a bigger racket where college-going girls were victimised.
The police have found pictures of other girls on the pimps’ phones and they suspect the others are collegians who are part of a racket.
