U17 Women’s Football Tournament: Sweden Lift Title By Defeating India 4-0

Mumbai: Sweden beat India 4–0 in the final of the U17 Women’s Football Tournament 2019 at Mumbai Football Arena on Thursday. Sweden took the lead in the fourth minute through Rasool Kafaji, who hit a shot from outside the penalty box that hit the back of the net.

The hosts wanted to retreat as Sumati Kumari was in danger of falling down the left side. However, Sweden extended their lead after a corner in the 16th minute – Rasool’s corner was led by captain Elma Nelhej.

Two minutes later, the Swedish girls added a third goal through Evelina Duljan, who ran under the right flank, rammed into the box and shot to score.

In the 20th minute, the away side was again threatened through Monica Baah, who rolled over an aerial through the ball and ran into the penalty area. He fired in a powerful shot but was on par with India’s goalkeeper Manju Ganju – diving short to throw it.

Changing, India launched the first attack. Wing-back Jyoti Kumari curled from her flank into a cross that was a magnificent Lind Kom and collected by Swedish custodian Eileen Swann.

In the 61st minute, Sweden earned a penalty kick for a foul inside the box but the resulting effort was skied over the bar by Matilda Vinberg.

The European side, though, made it four through Monica, as she converted the cross from the right and the ball hit the post and went into the goal.
