Unfortunately In Maha, We Don’t Have Any ‘Yogis’ But ‘Bhogis’: Raj Thackeray

Mumbai: MNS chief Raj Thackeray congratulated UP CM Yogi Adityanath for removing thousands of loudspeakers from religious places, “especially the masjids” in the state.

“Unfortunately in Maharashtra, we don’t have any yogis; what we have are ‘bhogis’ (hedonists). Here’s hoping and praying good sense prevails,” Raj Thackeray’s message read.

In the past few days, the UP government has managed to remove over 11,000 loudspeakers from religious places, while the volume of another 35,000 loudspeakers has been reduced to the permissible level.

The first to bring down their loudspeakers was Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi in Mathura, who decided not to broadcast his Aavan Aarti through loudspeakers at Bhagwat Bhavan in the Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi complex.

In his address at the Gudi Padwa gathering earlier this month, Raj Thackeray said his party workers would play Hanuman Chalisa in front of mosques if the state government did not remove loudspeakers from mosques in the state. Later, he also gave an ultimatum to the state government to remove loudspeakers from mosques before May 3.

The Maha Vikas Aghadi government refused to give any importance to Raj Thackeray’s threat and Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut dismissed Raj Thackeray as the ‘Owaisi of Maharashtra’.

However, the controversy took a serious turn when independent MLA couple Navneet Rana and Ravi Rana were arrested in connection with the Hanuman Chalisa controversy.

He had announced that he would visit Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray’s residence and chant Hanuman Chalisa. The plan was foiled by Shiv Sena workers, who surrounded Rana’s residence and the Ranas were later arrested.
