Union Cabinet Announces 10 Percent Quota For Economically Backward People In general Category

Mumbai: The Union Cabinet has recently approved 10 percent reservation for economically weaker upper castes in government jobs and education.

When it will be implemented the reservation quota will increase from 50 per cent to 60 per cent, ANI news agency  quoted sources saying that “the proposal for 10 per cent reservation for economically weaker upper caste was approved by the Union cabinet minister today.”

If this decision is implemented, candidates of the general caste of economically backward sections will get the benefit of reservation.

Whereas the criteria for deciding on economically weaker sections would be based on the size of the landholding and income of families. According to TOI reports people who earn less than 8 lakh annually, people who have agricultural land below 5 acres would be eligible.

“The reservation will be given to those economically backward poor people who are not availing the benefit of reservation as of now,” newswire agency PTI quoted its sources as saying.
