Union Cabinet Meeting: Approves MoU Between India And Guinea Over Traditional System Medicine, Amendment In National Medical Commission Bill Passed

Mumbai: In a recent development, Union Cabinet has approved the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and Guinea on Cooperation in the field of traditional systems of medicine and homeopathy.

As per the statement released by the officials MoU was signed on August 2 during the three-day visit of President Ram Nath Kovind to Guinea.

The agreement will enhance bilateral cooperation between the two countries given their shared cultural heritage in the areas of traditional systems of medicine.

“The activities between the two sides will start after the receipt of a copy of the signed MoU. The initiatives taken between the two countries will be as per the terms of reference of the MoU signed and will be a continuing process till the MoU remains in operation,” it said.

There are no additional financial implications. The statement said that the necessary financial resources for conducting research, training courses, conferences/meetings and deputation of experts would be met from the existing allocated budget and the existing planning schemes of the Ministry of AYUSH.

Meanwhile, it has also been reported that Union Cabinet approved amendments in the National Medical Commission (NMC) Bill, 2019, which was passed by Parliament earlier this month.

“The original version of the Bill was approved by the Cabinet on July 17, 2019, and was passed in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on July 29, 2019, and August 1, 2019, respectively, with official amendments,” an official statement about the cabinet decision said.

The changes were made in Clause 4 and Clause 37 of the NMC bill.

The cabinet was apprised of the changes made to the bill that has been approved by parliament in July 2019.
