Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar Booked For ‘Promoting enmity’ in Kerala

Mumbai: The Kerala Police registered a case against Union Minister of State Rajeev Chandrasekhar for allegedly making statements that promote enmity between different groups. The police filed an FIR on its own over his recent statements on social media regarding the Kochi blasts, reports PTI.

According to PTI, the Kerala Police Cyber Cell has independently filed a formal complaint (FIR) in relation to the minister’s recent social media remarks referencing the Kochi bomb and a Hamas leader’s virtual speech at an event hosted by an Islamist organization in the Malappuram district.

A day after the chief minister of Kerala, Pinarayi Vijayan, was accused by Chandrasekhar of engaging in “appeasement politics” and of making offensive remarks regarding religion following the explosion in Kochi’s Kalamassery area that claimed the lives of three people, including a twelve-year-old girl, the chief minister was accused of radicalization on Monday.

“I never mentioned any specific community. ‘Hamas’ was stated particularly. At a news conference, the Union minister remarked, “It almost seems like Pinarayi Vijayan wants to equate Hamas with the community.”

During a pro-Palestine event in Malappuram on October 28, former Hamas leader Khaled Mashal made the following statement on his website: “Both the Left and Congress have been allowing radical elements to grow in the state.”

Vijayan had already alluded to Chandrasekhar inadvertently on Sunday during a press conference.

According to Vijayan, “poisonous people will keep spitting poison.” “I am demonstrating against Israel and participating in appeasement politics,” stated a Union Minister.

Kochi blast

During a Sunday morning Jehovah’s Witness meeting at a private convention hall in Kalamassery, a bombing left three people dead and over fifty wounded.

Around 9:30 am, when the explosion occurred, nearly 2,500 people were praying inside the conference hall. According to police, preliminary examinations of the bomb site point to the gathering being the intended target of a timer-based low-intensity IED.

“There were no traces of shrapnel to multiply the impact of the blast. However, the IED was placed near an oil container to exacerbate the fire,” an official had said, adding that they are “not ruling out a terror angle” in the attack.

Hours after the attack, a man, Dominic Martin, claimed responsibility for the blast and surrendered before the police. He said he was a member of the religious group but had been angered by some of its teachings. He was arrested by the Kerala Police on Monday.
