Unnao Rape Case: Kuldeep Sengar Approaches Delhi HC Challenging Conviction By Trial Court

Mumbai: Expelled BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar has approached the Delhi High Court challenging his conviction by the trial court in the Unnao rape case.

On December 16 last year, Sengar was convicted by a Delhi court for raping a minor girl in Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao district two years ago.

The court convicted him under sections 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sections 5 (c) and 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act, which related to penetrating sexual assault committed by a child Is a public servant

A day-long hearing was held in the case after being transferred from Uttar Pradesh to the national capital on the directions of the Supreme Court that the survivor’s car was found with an accident after the rape, in which two of his uncles were killed.

The rape survivor and his lawyer were seriously injured in the crash. The family had alleged hooliganism.
After the car accident, the girl was taken to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi.

Sengar, a four-time BJP MLA from Bangarmau in Uttar Pradesh, raped the girl in June 2017 at her residence in Unnao, where she had gone in search of a job. He was later arrested and is currently lodged in Tihar Jail.
