UP Makes -ve RT-PCR Must For Those Coming From States With Positivity Rate Over 3%

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government has made it mandatory to produce negative RT-PCR reports for the travellers entering UP from states with a positivity rate of more than 3%.

However, the state government has exempted those who have been given both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. The negative report should not be more than four days old.

A government spokesperson said the rule would not only apply to people travelling by air, rail and road but would also be applicable to those coming by private vehicles.

This came a day after Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath-led BJP government in UP postponed the proposed ‘Kanwar Yatra’ following a call by the Kanwar Sangh in the wake of the pandemic.

The Chief Minister said that the community should take a decision on issues related to faith. “The spirit of the Kanwar Sangh should be respected,” he said.

According to a statement issued by the state health department on Sunday, 56 new infections and seven deaths have been reported in Uttar Pradesh in the last 24 hours.

The new cases pushed the overall tally to 17,07,847, while the death toll rose to 22,721, while more people succumbed to the disease. In the last 24 hours, 69 COVID-19 patients in the state have recovered from the disease, and have been discharged, taking the total number of recoveries to 16,83,866.

Of the 56 fresh COVID-19 cases, six cases each were reported from Varanasi and Gautam Buddh Nagar, five from Prayagraj and four from Lucknow, it said.
