Uttar Pradesh Government Lifts Night Curfew Amid Declining COVID-19 Cases

Mumbai: Following a drop in the number of coronavirus cases, the Uttar Pradesh government on Saturday issued an order lifting the COVID-19-induced night curfew in the state.  Following the outbreak of the third wave of COVID-19, a night curfew was imposed in Uttar Pradesh from 10 pm to 6 am on January 9.

On February 13, the guidelines were amended and the curfew timings were reduced from 11 pm to 5 am.

However, following a sharp drop in daily Covid-19 cases in the state, the Yogi Adityanath government has decided to completely lift the night curfew from the state.

Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Awanish Awasthi said that there will be no night curfew from February 19.

This development comes just a day before the third phase of polling for the ongoing assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh. Polling is to be held in seven phases in the state and the results will be declared on March 10.

Earlier in the day, the Union Health Ministry confirmed that India’s Covid-19 tally climbed to 4,28,02,505 on Saturday, with 22,270 more people testing positive for the viral disease, while the number of active cases came down to 2,53,739.

Daily Covid-19 cases in the country have remained below one lakh for 13 consecutive days now. Uttar Pradesh reported 23,424 cases in the last 24 hours.
