Uttar Pradesh: Raebareli Sadar MLA Aditi Singh Resigns From Congress

Mumbai: Raebareli Sadar MLA, Aditi Singh, tendered her resignation letter to Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Thursday, ahead of UP Assembly polls.

The Election Commission has said that voting will begin from February 10 in seven phases for 403 assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh.

The Congress, taking action against Singh, suspended her from the post of general secretary of the party’s women’s wing.

Aditi Singh joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in November 2021. Before joining the saffron party, she was very critical of the Congress leadership and praised the BJP. He was expected to join the ruling party.

Aditi Singh had caused major embarrassment for the Congress after questioning the prolonged absence of interim party president Sonia Gandhi from her parliamentary constituency Rae Bareli.

“Sonia Gandhi came to Rae Bareli only twice after winning the elections in the last five years. She has come to Rae Bareli only once to file her nomination before the 2019 elections,” Singh told media persons.

In Uttar Pradesh, polling will be held in seven phases on 10, 14, 20, 23, 27 and March 3 and 7. The counting of votes will take place on March 10.
