Mumbai: A video showing hundreds of girls protesting at Chandigarh University and chanting ‘we want justice’ has surfaced online. The protest broke out at night after videos of around 60 girls taking baths in the hostel were leaked online.
It is alleged that a student recorded those videos of her hostel mates and shared them with an unidentified person outside the university, which made them viral on social media. She was reportedly caught by the warden of the hostel.
On receiving information about the start of the sit-in on Saturday night, the police reached the spot and arrested the student who allegedly made the video viral.
A case has been registered against the accused girl under section 354C of IPC and IT Act at Ghahua police station.
University officials have denied making any videos and said any lapses on the part of the university and the hostel administration will be investigated.

“One of the students who recorded the objectionable video shared it with a friend, actually her boyfriend. When her roommates came to know about this, they informed the hostel warden about the matter. After this the warden investigated the matter and during the investigation the warden tried to find out whether the accused student had made videos of her roommates and other students in the hostel. We could not find anything like this but we did find some objectionable pictures and she also admitted that she had shared them with her friend. Her boyfriend must be blackmailing her. This is the only case,” said Chandigarh University Dean Students Welfare (DSW).

No male is allowed in the girl’s hostel and even the maintenance staff is allowed inside with a pass and warden accompanies them.
