We Have Many Related Areas Of Cooperation For Ship Building: Russian President, Vladimir Putin

Mumbai: Russia and India are looking at the possibilities of launching a joint venture. Both the country leaders announced that there might be a joint venture during the Eastern Economic Forum on Thursday, the Russian President said that there were many areas of cooperation and that some parts of the ship could be built in Russia and they can be fine-tuned in India.

He said, “Yesterday, we spoke with the Prime Minister (of India). We are exploring the chances of starting up a joint venture. Maybe some vessels will be built by us (Russia),” Putin said. He and Narendra Modi held a wide-ranging summit to strengthen the relationship between the two countries and explore various areas both the countries could work together.

Putin further added, “The ships will be partially built by us and partially fine-tuned by India’s shipyards.” Modi and Putin on Wednesday visited the Zvezda shipyard in Russia and met the Senior officials of the facility.

He further stated that the Russian oil giant owned India’s major oil refineries. He then said, “It (Rosneft) has recently purchased a controlling stake and controls one of India’s major ports.” He referred to Essar Oil, which is located in Vadinar oil refinery in Gujarat.

“Therefore, we have many related areas of cooperation. There are no closed issues. On the contrary, we are interested in attracting our partners,” President V. Putin said.
