Weightlifter Lovepreet Singh Breaks His Own National Record, Bags Bronze At CWG 2022

Mumbai: India’s 24-year-old weightlifter Lovepreet Singh lifted a total of 355 kg in the men’s 109-kg final to bag a bronze medal at CWG 2022. He also broke his own national record.

On the final day of weightlifting at CWG 2022, Lovepreet got off to a good start, raising India’s overall medal tally at CWG 2022 to 14. Lovepreet lifted a best of 163 in the snatch to finish on the podium with 192kg clean and jerk.

Later in the day, along with two more Indian lifters, 24-year-old Lovepreet raised the bar. He successfully pulled off all six lifts on his way to setting a new clean and jerk national record.

After starting with a lead of 159kg in her first snatch attempt, Lovepreet took the lead in the next with a brief struggle with an effort of 161kg. This was followed by an extra two kilos and Lovepreet easily lifted 163 kilos from the thigh-five fest.

When it came to cleaning and jerking, Lovepreet had to lift 185kg, which she did without any trouble. He improved it by lifting 189 kg without any trouble.

In his last attempt, Lovepreet broke her own national record within minutes with a tremendous effort of 192kg.
